Wimbledon Introduces Video Challenge Technology in 2025.

Wimbledon court with video review technology

The tournament joins the American and Australian Opens in implementing video review technology.

Replay technology are set to arrive at Wimbledon this year.

Players are granted the right to challenge specific calls made by the official, mirroring the practice currently in use at both the US Open and the Australian Open.

The new system will be operational on Centre Court and Court One for the duration of the Championships and on the other four featured courts when they are staging singles matches.

This development comes just a season following the All England Club implemented ELC, which terminated the 147-year role of line officials.

Scope of Challenges

Players will not be permitted to dispute the accuracy of the ELC system, but they can ask for the umpire to review specific decisions, including:

  • Whether a tennis ball has bounced twice.
  • Whether a shot touched an opponent's racquet or body on the way past.
  • Potential interference end of a point.

Importantly, there will be an unlimited number on the amount of reviews a player can initiate.

Practical Application

A recent incident took place in a recent tournament last week, where a top player initiated the review system against Jack Draper.

Draper conceded it was a tough call for the official, but believed his opponent had "used the regulations effectively."

Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a video and ruled the player was guilty of interference, awarding the point to Medvedev.

Wider Implementation

This technology aren't new for Grand Slams. The system has been in use at the US Open since 2023 and the Australian Open since 2025.

Additionally, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the ATP circuit will have video reviews in place at every one of its tournaments.

Further Updates

Another innovation at Wimbledon 2025 involves the addition of visual indicators on displays to complement the verbal announcements from the electronic line calling system.

This addresses situations where fans have sometimes been unsure if a shot was out or in.

Finally, with exactly a century of days to go until the start of the Championships, the AELTC have also revealed an increase in daily attendance at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
