Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a exciting storyline showcasing angels, demons, and dark forces expanding in influence within the city.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of characters who will separate from the primary party to undertake their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
With 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that having everyone at a single group would be impossible.
That’s why, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
Per the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might seem mismatched, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
First, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose death initiated the story’s plot—exploited the foes for his own means, invading the secret base, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
Casimir then paid off his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each member has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks revenge.
- The adventurer is familiar with the region and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
- Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his house’s orders to execute Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their reputation as important members in House Halovar could enable the party enter places they normally couldn’t.
- Moreover, Teor swore a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are wanted by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:
- The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The cleric betrayed the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This leaves them few options but to travel to the northern region in quest for Casimir.
Upcoming Developments
From the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table won’t be around the following episode, leaving the rest of the players to form the Questers and Strategists tables.
Viewers can look forward to finding out which players will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on next week.
