An extensive extended journey around the Australian Coast is being halted days after the tragic passing of an older lady who was left behind by the cruise liner on a remote coastal location.

The elderly woman had been hiking on the tropical location with fellow passengers from the vessel, but separated from the excursion for a rest. The ship departed without her and returned several hours later after the ship staff became aware the lady was not present.

A large-scale rescue mission found her remains the following day.

Authorities are looking into the tragedy, alongside law enforcement and the medical examiner.

Chief Executive of the voyage organizer announced that travelers and crew on the ship were notified that the continuation of the voyage had been terminated due to the "tragic passing and prior mechanical issues".

In a statement, he further stated that passengers would be issued a total repayment, and said the operator was working "to arrange the travel back of the individuals via chartered flights".

Authorities also released an revised statement, and said they had "delivered a notice to the Captain" banning any new passengers from entering the ship.

The spokesperson said that they would attend the liner in Cairns upon its return.

The ship first departed the coastal city on October 24th, and was merely two days into the journey at the point of the senior passenger's demise. The remote island was the initial destination on the voyage.

She continued that she hoped the examination would be able to identify what "the operator should have performed that might have saved Mum's life".
